I was reading an article on cisco blog - http://blogs.cisco.com/manufacturing/jump-start-your-connected-factory-recap-of-the-recent-ciscochat

I hear a lot about internet of things and IOT. Could you someone explain this to me. I am not from a technical background so, kindly use simple words.

I do not want to give very unpractical example at this point of time.

IoT is when you record your favorite programs on  your HD PVR when you are at office or at a vacation, just with a few touches on your mobile. The communication between your mobile and the set-top-box happens over internet.

Internet of things is when you power-on your mini-fridge just before you start from office so that bottles become cold when you reach home.  Internet of things is when you watch the CC TV arranged at your front door from anywhere in the world. IoT is when you set an alarm on your mobile and the music player at your home wakes you up!

The internet of things (IoT) is the network of physical devices, vehicles, home appliances and other items embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators and connectivity which enables these objects to connect and exchange data. Each thing is uniquely identifiable through it's embedded computing system but is able to inter operate within the existing internet infrastructure.
